Settings To Do After Installing Linux Mint 17 Qiana CINNAMON

After installing linux mint 17 MATE edition there are some good settings that can be done . I am merely suggesting you to do these settings.

Your computer needs to be connected to Internet. Better you have a fast Internet.

Enter password whenever asked during the whole process.

You also need to install flashgot downloader manager addon in firefox .

Now when you download files from firefox, you get this message . Select “Flashgot” then “uGet” . Now the file will be downloaded by uGet download manager.

Installation through terminal

Simple screen recorder

Write following commands in terminal to install

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:maarten-baert/simplescreenrecorder
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install simplescreenrecorder

I-Nex is free system info tool which is used to gather information on the main system components (devices) such as CPU, motherboard, memory, video memory, sound, USB devices and so on.

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:i-nex-development-team/stable
  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nemh/gambas3
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install i-nex

CPU-G is useful utility to show hardware information. It detects hardware and display details about everything, it shows information about CPU(Processor), RAM(Active/Inactive, Free, Used and cached), Motherboard and Chipset, Bios Details, Graphic card details, and details of installed Linux.

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cpug-devs/ppa
  • sudo apt-get update

Variety is more of a fully featured application than just a simple AppIndicator, but I’ll add it here anyway since I’m sure many of you will love it.

 

Variety is a wallpaper changer. Variety automatically downloads and changes your wallpaper on a given interval. Using Variety , you’ll get cool, fresh wallpapers each day. Or each hour. Or… well, it’s up to you when the wallpaper changes.

To install Variety in Linux Mint 17 Qiana, use the following commands:

Linux Mint 17 Qiana Xfce Edition

 

Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly.

 

System requirements:

  • x86 processor (Linux Mint 64-bit requires a 64-bit processor. Linux Mint 32-bit works on both 32-bit and 64-bit processors).
  • 512 MB RAM (1GB recommended for a comfortable usage).
  • 10 GB of disk space
  • Graphics card capable of 1024×768
  • DVD drive or USB port

DOWNLOAD LINK

 

After download you need to burn the ISO image in DVD or you can make bootable USB pendrive using Rufus.

 

  • After you have booted from Linux mint 17 XFCE live, this desktop will be shown.
  • Double click on “Install Linux mint”

  • Here you can formatting, resize, deletion or creation of partitions. So be careful .
  • Here can proceed in two ways.
  • One is that you already have a partition which has enough space to install linux. That would be partition with size more than 15 GB . In this case you can just select the partition where you want to install linux mint and click “change” .
  • Second is that you do not have partition for installing linux. So you need to delete an existing partition to get free space to install linux. To do so select a partition which you want to delete and click minus ” – ” .
  • In my case i will delete the partition /dev/sda3 . I selected that partition and clicked ” – “

  • /dev/sda3 deleted.
  • Now i have about 31000 MB free space.
  • I will also delete the /dev/sda10 partition of size about 4432 MB.
  • Select the partition /dev/sda10 and click ” – “

  • /dev/sda10 deleted .
  • Now I have total free space of size 35434 MB
  • To create a new partition select free space and  click ” + “

  • Set size as required . Here i set ” 31000 MB”
  • Select partition type “Primary” if possible.
  • Select “Ext4 journaling file system”
  • Select Mount point “/”.
  • Click “OK”

  • /dev/sda3 partition created where linux mint will be installed
  • To create swap partition select free space and click ” + “

  • Set size . 4 GB size should be enough.
  • Select “Use as” “swap area”.
  • Click “OK”

  • /dev/sda10 partition created which will act as swap area .
  • Now select /dev/sda3 where linux mint will be installed.
  • Click “Install Now”

Linux mint is very good for beginners. It is easy to install and use.

KDE is a vibrant, innovative, advanced, modern looking and full-featured desktop environment.

KDE is all about themes and looks. You can have desktop widgets.

I like the themes and so many settings that can be dome in KDE version.

Linux Mint 17 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use.
